CARLA PIRES is a fado singer who started to sing at music contests in 1993. After getting a degree in Performing Arts in 1995, Carla Pires continued her start up career as actress and singer by the recording of several soundtracks for TV series. Due to the exposure granted by TV, where she also played roles as actress, Carla Pires was invited to the biggest musical ever produced in Portugal – AMÁLIA, in which she performed the role of Amália Rodrigues at youth, since 2002 and for almost 4 years. Discography- In 2002 Carla Pires released the CD “O Fado em Concerto” with the string quartet QUINTETO AMALIA. In this CD, the songs of Amália Rodrigues are backed by classical instruments instead of the traditional fado instruments. June 2005 – Release of ”ILHA DO MEU FADO” (“ISLAND OF MY FADO”) for OCARINA records label. This CD is a musical journey through fado, with songs from different origins and roots that, somehow or somewhere, changed the scope of fado. One track of this CD “ Boca da Noite” was licensed in Netherlands for the compilation “Global Sounds 2005”, with 60000 copies sold. Performances: In Portugal, as a fado singer, Carla Pires performed in most important Theatres, and at prestigious venues like “Festa do Avante” (2004, 2005 and 2006) and “Casa de Mateus International Music Festival”, Taizé Meeting in Lisbon (concert for 2000 young people-Dec.2004). In December 2004 Carla Pires performed in London, at Purcell Room in the Queen Elisabeth Hall, as special guest of the Atlantic Waves Festival. She also played in Greece, Japan and Spain. In May 2005 Carla Pires was back in Japan (Aichi) to perform at the World Exhibition 2005, as an ambassador of Portuguese Culture. In 2006 Carla Pires performed in Athens, Stockholm and Lund, Mantua (Italy); Herzele and Sint Truiden (Belgium). During 2007 and 2008 Carla continued to tour around Europe.
