Onda Vaga begins in january 2007, in the magical beaches of Cabo Polonio, Uruguay; when Nacho Rodríguez and Marcelo Blanco along with Marcos Orellana and Tomás Justo prepare an acoustic set (acoustic guitar, cuatro, trumpet, cajon) with their own songs to play some gigs during those vacations. In may 2007, back in Argentina, a new member joins the group: Germán Cohen, adding his voice and the smooth colour of his trombon to the band. The official debut in Buenos Aires comes in august 2007, since then the “vagos” played several times in many small venues. They also played in almost any social event they were invited to (parties, bernissages, birthdays, etc) thanks to the mobility of their instruments and the joyous nature of their presentations. During april and august 2008, they perform a series of sold out gigs introducing to the audience what would became Onda Vaga ́s first album, “Fuerte y Caliente”, out in september ́08. 2008 ends with a concert in one of Buenos Aires most prestigious music festivals, sharing the billboard with R.E.M. and Mars Volta among others, and with two sold out gigs per week, one in the city and one in the city ́s suburbs. In december Onda Vaga is awarded by the Rolling Stone mag as the new band of the year and "Fuerte y Caliente" as one of the 50 most important records of 2008. 2009 begins with a tour through Cabo Polonio (the band ́s birthplace) and a gig in one of Buenos Aires biggest scenarios, CC Konex, for more than 1000 people. March comes with good news while Onda Vaga is invited by Manu Chao to open one of his shows in Buenos Aires for more than 7000 people in the classic Luna Park stadium. During this year the band tours through Argentina consolidating a big national audience and tries for the first time a visit to Europe, spending two months in 20 cities, playing a few times in venues and bars but doing a lot of street performances selling almost 1000 copies of their first album. Back in Argentina, the public grows and the main cities show the vagos more than a thousand people each time they play. For the end of 2009, a new record is the goal. “Espíritu Salvaje” sees the light in september 2010, it comes with a few nominations to local media awards and takes them to tour Brazil and again across the atlantic, this time even playing three gigs in Morocco but mostly consolidating their audience in Madrid and Barcelona. By now, the vagos have grown and have a backing band of four musicians that completes their actual live sound. With deep existencial yet simple lyrics, choral and harmonic arrangements and also really high spirited live performances, this mix of rumba-cumbia-reggae-folk-rock, brings lots of new fans to each show. All five musicians came from Buenos Aires rock culture, but now they..ve loosen their attachment to wires and distortions offering themselves to the audience in the way they know the best: having fun.
