Glassio is the Queens, NY-based new wave/dream-pop project from Irish-Iranian songwriter-producer Sam R. Tinged with self-described hints of "melancholy-disco," Glassio's music uses dance influences as a vessel for wavering pop melodies, introspective lyrics, and lush harmonies.
Glassio started in late 2015 at NYU's Clive Davis School as a duo between Sam R. and his classmate Charles Pinel before turning into a solo project. The group's first single "Try Much Harder" went to No. 9 on the Spotify Global Viral charts in 2016. The following singles "Morning House, "Papaya," "Daydream," and "Back for More" accumulated millions of plays on Spotify. In early 2019, Glassio released Age of Experience, described by Mother Jones as "proof that electronic music and great storytelling are a perfect match." Several singles from the EP landed on Spotify's New Music Friday and led to opening shows with Electric Youth, Fujiya & Miyagi, and Miami Horror in the Summer of 2019.
2020 sees the release of Glassio's debut album. "I wanted this album to sound like a hymnal-dance record Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young would have made had they spent a Summer on ecstasy in Ibiza in 1988," Sam R. explains. The album, For The Very Last Time, is due on July 23rd. Outside of producing original material and performing, Sam R. is a remixer, producing Glassio re-works for artists like Madge, Sulene and Argonaut & Wasp.
